The latest in US politics, from swing state results to who is in (and out) of Trump's team
The Associated Press called the final two states for Donald Trump, bringing the Electoral College vote count to a close.
It's been a huge week of news as Donald Trump beat Kamala Harris in the race to the White House.
From key election results to new cabinet appointments, there are seemingly endless updates to keep across as Trump's second term begins to take shape.
Here are the biggest updates in US politics you might have missed over the weekend.
Trump wins Arizona and Nevada, the final two states to be called
The Associated Press called Nevada and Arizona for Donald Trump, completing a clean sweep of all seven battleground states and locking in a decisive Electoral College victory over Democratic Vice-President Kamala Harris.
By winning Nevada, Trump returned the state and its six electoral college votes to Republicans for the first time in 20 years.
Trump, who had secured the 270 Electoral College votes needed to win the White House by early on Wednesday, now has what is expected to be a final total of 312 votes to Harris's 226.
In addition to Arizona and Nevada, Trump won the swing states of Michigan, Pennsylvania, Georgia, North Carolina and Wisconsin.
AP said Trump had won 74.6 million votes nationwide, or 50.5 per cent, to Harris's 70.9 million, or 48 per cent.
Biden and Trump pencil in a time to meet at the Oval Office
The White House has announced that President Joe Biden will host Trump for a traditional post-election meeting in the Oval Office on Wednesday.
Joe Biden said the American people deserved a "peaceful and orderly" transfer of power.
This kind of meeting between the outgoing president and the incoming president is customary and is due in part to mark the start of a peaceful transfer of power.
But Trump didn't host Biden for a sit-down after the 2020 election, when Trump lost his re-election bid.
In his speech on Thursday, Biden said he had assured Trump "that I would direct my entire administration to work with his team to ensure a peaceful and orderly transition".
"That's what the American people deserve."
The meeting is set for 11am on Wednesday, which is 3am AEST on Thursday.
Trump put Elon Musk on the phone with Ukraine's Zelenskyy
Billionaire Elon Musk took part in a phone call between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US president-elect Donald Trump after his election victory, according to a senior Ukrainian official.
Donald Trump said he aimed to include Elon Musk in some form of advisory role in his upcoming government.
Musk, the world's richest man, played a major role in Trump's campaign, spending over $US110 million ($167 million) of his personal fortune to help get him elected.
Trump has said he aims to include Musk in some form of advisory role in his upcoming government.
Another high-ranking Ukrainian source told AFP that Musk was physically present with Trump during the call and that Musk "wasn't on the line, Trump gave him the phone".
Zelenskyy "thanked [Musk] for the Starlinks, they talked briefly", the source said, referring to the satellite internet devices used by Ukrainian troops as they fight off a Russian invasion.
"But the main conversation was of course with Trump," the source added, while saying he and Zelenskyy "didn't really discuss anything substantial, it was just a greeting conversation".
Susie Wiles named as Trump's chief of staff
Donald Trump thanked his campaign manager, Susie Wiles, on election night and called her the "Ice Maiden".
Speaking of appointments, Trump has announced his campaign manager Susan Summerall Wiles will be his chief of staff, making her the first woman to hold the influential role in the White House.
"Susie Wiles just helped me achieve one of the greatest political victories in American history and was an integral part of both my 2016 and 2020 successful campaigns," Trump said.
"Susie is tough, smart, innovative and is universally admired and respected."
Wiles, a veteran political strategist from Florida, will be tasked with being the president's confidante and gatekeeper, while also making sure the White House runs smoothly.
Trump thanked Wiles during his election-night speech and even offered her the chance to say a few words, though she declined.
Trump added that while Wiles liked to stay out of the spotlight, they called her the "ice maiden".
Nikki Haley, Mike Pompeo ruled out of Trump's team
While Wiles's role has been confirmed, Trump also ruled out a couple of figures who won't be part of his administration.
In a Truth Social post, Trump announced former Republican presidential contender Nikki Haley and former secretary of state Mike Pompeo would not be asked to join his administration.
Nikki Haley and Mike Pompeo both endorsed Trump at the Republican National Convention earlier this year.
"I will not be inviting former Ambassador Nikki Haley, or former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, to join the Trump Administration, which is currently in formation," Trump wrote.
"I very much enjoyed and appreciated working with them previously, and would like to thank them for their service to our Country."
Haley, a former South Carolina governor who served as US ambassador to the United Nations under Trump, endorsed Trump for president despite having criticised him harshly when she ran against him in the party primaries.
Pompeo, who also served as director of the Central Intelligence Agency under Trump, has been mentioned in some media reports as a possible defence secretary and had been seen as a potential Republican presidential candidate, before he announced in April 2023 he would not run.
Kamala Harris spends time with family following election loss
Aside from delivering a concession speech the morning after election day, we haven't heard much from Kamala Harris following her loss to Donald Trump.
On Sunday morning, Harris's niece, Meena, shared two photos of the Democratic nominee laughing and spending time with family.
In the Instagram post, the outgoing vice-president is seen sitting cross-legged on the floor while playing Connect 4 with Meena's two daughters.
"Back to where it all began only a few months ago," Meena Harris wrote on Instagram.
"My eternal gratitude to everyone who showed up. We love her so much."
