  • Attending the Remembrance events will be seen as another major milestone in Kate's return to public life.

The Princess of Wales has joined King Charles and other senior royals at a major Remembrance event in London.

Kate, who is making a gradual return to the public eye after being diagnosed with cancer earlier this year, joined her husband the Prince of Wales at the Royal Albert Hall for the Festival of Remembrance Ceremony.

This is Kate's second official public appearance since completing chemotherapy in September.

The royal family stand to applaud WWII veterans at the Remembrance event.

Her last public appearance was in October, when she met the bereaved families of three young girls who were killed at a dance class in Southport, north-west England.

Earlier this week, Prince William spoke of the toll that both his father and wife's illnesses have taken on the family during his visit to South Africa.

Speaking to British media, William said the past year had probably been the "hardest" of his life.

"Honestly, it's been dreadful," he said.

"I'm so proud of my wife, I'm proud of my father, for handling the things that they have done.

"But from a personal family point of view, it's been brutal."

Many royal fans on social media were quick to say how healthy the king and princess looked.

Princess Kate was diagnosed with an undisclosed type of cancer earlier this year.

"So glad to see the King and the Princess of Wales both there, looking so well," one user wrote.

"I'm so happy to see the Princess of Wales and the King looking beautiful and healthy," another said.

Kate is also expected to attend the main Remembrance Day ceremony on Sunday (local time), Buckingham Palace said.

Queen Camilla misses events due to illness

Queen Camilla pulled out of planned Remembrance Day engagements this week after suffering a chest infection.

Her doctors advised a period of rest before returning to public duties early next week.

"Following doctors' guidance to ensure a full recovery from a seasonal chest infection, and to protect others from any potential risk, Her Majesty will not attend this weekend's Remembrance events," a Buckingham palace spokesperson said.

She will be marking the day "privately at home".
