    In short:

World champion Max Verstappen has been described as "dangerous" by championship rival Lando Norris after the Dutchman forced his opponent off track.

Carlos Sainz won the Mexico City Grand Prix ahead of Norris, while Verstappen placed sixth.

    What's next?

Norris has narrowed the gap to Verstappen down to 47 points with four grands prix and two sprint races left in the season.

World champion Max Verstappen has been described as "dangerous" by championship rival Lando Norris after the Dutchman forced his opponent off track.

Verstappen was handed a pair 10-second penalty by race stewards at the Mexico City Grand Prix after driving Norris off track twice in the space of four corners at the Mexico City Grand Prix.

Ferrari's Carlos Sainz claimed his second race win of the year, ahead of Norris and Charles Leclerc.

Two major flashpoints in the space of four corners between the world championship protagonists led to defending champion Max Verstappen being given 20 seconds worth of penalties.

With Verstappen second and Norris chasing on lap 14 of 71, the Dutchman was deemed to have pushed Norris off the track as the Brit attempted an overtake.

Four corners later and Verstappen now trying to retake the position, the Dutchman forced Norris off track.

"This guy is dangerous. I just have to avoid a crash — it's the same as last time, mate," Norris said over the radio.

Verstappen was given a 10-second penalty for each of the incidents, which he served in his pitstop.

Both cars touched in each incident.

This follows the drama from the previous weekend in Texas, when Norris was stripped of a podium place after overtaking Verstappen off track.

"I knew what to expect. I didn't want to expect such a thing, because I respect Max a lot as a driver. But I was ready to expect something like this," Norris said during his post-race interview.

"This is not very clean driving, in my opinion."

Verstappen pitted from third and emerged 15th after being stationary in the pits for what would have felt like an eternity.

The Dutchman, complaining about tyres for the final 30 laps of the race, was able to climb his way back to sixth.

Norris meanwhile was able to snatch second, denying Ferrari a consecutive 1-2 after their success last week in Austin.

Norris entered the race 57 points adrift of Verstappen in the race for the drivers' championship.

The McLaren driver was able to narrow the gap to 47 points with four grands prix and two sprint races left in the season.

Meanwhile, Australian Oscar Piastri was able to climb nine places to collect points.

Piastri had a shocking qualifying the day before, qualifying a season-worst 17th.

But the Australian was able to slice his way through the field to place eighth.
